10 Ideas to Tie Your Faith Into Your Elopement Day

Simple and heartfelt ways to honor God from sunrise to “I do.”

If you are dreaming up an intimate elopement day and want to keep your faith at the center of it all, you are in the right place. Whether you are getting married along the cliffs of California, in the forests or waterfalls of Oregon, or somewhere peaceful and pretty here in Wisconsin, there are so many intentional ways to invite God into every moment.

Here are some simple ideas you can tie into your day that feel natural, meaningful, and true to who you are.

1. Start Your Morning in Prayer

One of my favorite ways to begin a wedding day is with quiet time. Read a Psalm, journal, pray together, or just sit outside and breathe in the peace. It sets such a grounding, Christ centered tone for everything that follows.

2. Choose a Location That Reflects Gods Beauty

Eloping in nature is one of the sweetest ways to experience Gods creation. Think Lake Michigan bluffs in Wisconsin, a foggy Oregon coastline, or golden California cliffs. When you choose a place that already points to His glory, your ceremony naturally feels more sacred and awe filled.

3. Add Scripture Into Your Vows

Whether you include a verse you both love or weave Scripture into your vow wording, it brings depth and intention to your ceremony. Some couples like to read a short passage before exchanging rings too.

4. Pause for Prayer or Worship During the Ceremony

A simple prayer, a quiet moment, or even a worship song playing softly on a speaker can shift the whole atmosphere. It is such a beautiful way to invite God in right before your vows.

5. Bring a Shared Bible to Highlight or Sign

Instead of a traditional guest book, bring a Bible. Highlight a verse that represents your relationship, or write little notes to each other in the margins. It becomes such a meaningful keepsake for your marriage.

6. Incorporate a Washing of the Feet Moment

This is one of the most tender and Christ like acts you can include on your elopement day. Washing each others feet is a symbol of humility, service, forgiveness, and unity. Outdoors with a mountain or lakeside backdrop? Truly powerful.

7. Pray Over Your Marriage at Sunset

After portraits or your picnic, take a slow moment and pray over your marriage. Your future home, your dreams, the life you are building together. Whether you are overlooking an Oregon overlook, a California beach, or a quiet Wisconsin forest, this moment always feels incredibly grounding.

8. Invite Loved Ones in Spirit

If your family is not physically with you, ask them to write letters, prayers, or blessings for you to read throughout the day. They can even record a short prayer or message for you to listen to before your ceremony. It is such a sweet way to include them without changing the intimacy of your elopement.

9. Add Faith Filled Details

Little things matter. A cross necklace, a verse sewn into your dress or suit, Scripture cards in your vow books, or a prayer written inside your bouquet wrap. These details make your elopement feel personal and faith forward.

10. Choose a Photographer Who Honors Your Faith

Find a photographer who gets the heart behind your Christian elopement and values the spiritual meaning of your day.
