Hot Take: The Best Time To Elope In Southern California Isn’t Summer
Honestly, we know California is amazing all year around.
But as a girl who was born and raised in Southern California I 100% believe that late fall to early spring are underrated GEMS to plan your elopement!
Here’s 3 reasons why you should plan your elopement October-April
Weather is ideal
The light is better (I’ll explain later)
Less crowds (Definitely A top reason!)
Okay so let’s break it down
The weather…
Unlike most places Socal doesn’t shut down in winter. Temps are 60-75 degrees most days. With cooler mornings/evenings. (Getting that misty morning beach vibe is definitely a mood i’m here for!)
Also way less heat. You’re getting comfortable weather without sweating through your wedding day!
Why Summer isn’t ideal (way more heat to deal with in the desert, mountains and coastal)
The Lighting…
Okay here me out. This might get a little photo technical but in the fall/winter seasons the sun sits lower in the sky.
Why that’s important… it means there are warmer/softer shadows and it’s flattering on your skin, clouds are a natural light diffuser and sunsets last longer.
Why Summer isn’t ideal (the sun sits higher in the sky and is harsher, bright light)
Less crowds…
This speaks for itself. Though its not guaranteed to have complete seclusion depending on your location. You want to have an elopement experience that is private, peaceful and you aren’t fighting the crowds to find parking or reservations or even worse people roaming close by during your vows.
I love finding my couples locations off the beaten path so they can be so wrapped up focusing on each other and the beauty around them. When families, tourists, everyone is back to work and school, it allows for a lot more opportunity in your elopement.
“Off season booking” - In some areas lodging is cheaper in slower seasons. Who doesn’t like to save a bit of $$!
Less crowds mean more options for cool airbnb’s, also more availability for dinner reservations, or activities and excursions!
Why Summer isn’t ideal (more people on vacation, lodging, flights, dinner reservation, excursion bookings are all a battle to secure a spot and likely spending more money)
